Just a perfect spring day here in Ocean City today. All cleaned up after our “nor’easter” that did create a bit of minor damage to homes and businesses (roof shingles, vinyl siding, banners, signs and a lot of sand on the boardwalk) but again, however, ready for a great weekend.
If you want to take a trip back to the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s, Ocean City is the place to be from today through Sunday. The town is hosting the annual “Cruisin’ Ocean City” car show. It is expected that some 6000 muscle cars, classics and hot rods will be coming to the beach for this event.
The show headquarters will be at the Ocean City Convention Center but you will find the cars throughout the town and at the Inlet parking lot. There will also be a boardwalk parade. Show hours at the Convention Center will 9 a.m to 5 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. You will also be able to see most of the cars as they travel up and down Coastal Hwy late into the evening. Make sure you take a jacket and a comfortable folding chair.
Don “Big Daddy” Garlits, one of the greatest drag racers of all time will be saying Hi and signing autographs at several different locations during the weekend.
Entertainment on tap for the show will feature “The Rip Cords” on Friday at 8 p.m. and “The Vogues” on Saturday at 8 p.m. Both shows will be opened by “Still Surfin” There will be an admission charge for all events. You can call 800-551-7328 for details and show costs.
There will also be sales and auctions, so if you are in the market for a classic, this will probably be the place to be. Although most of these folks are into the classics as a hobby (quite expensive I might add), I’m told that they can’t wait to take and show off their cars on a warm spring or summer weekend. The great draw for them is the fun and comradery that they look forward to.
So, if you do plan to come to the beach this weekend but are not particularly interested in hot rod cars, everything else the town has to offer is still available. Don’t deprive yourself by staying home, you’ll be sorry you did.
Don’t forget to stop by the Makai and say hello to the staff there and take a tour of one of the finest new construction (and lowest priced) condo’s in Ocean City. In the meantime you can always take a virtual tour by going to www.makaicondos.com.
Traffic is beginning to pick up so please drive carefully and remember to cross at marked crosswalks only.
