We couldn’t have written a better script for this weekends weather here in Ocean City. This will be one of the better Memorial Day holidays (or at least as good) here at the beach in many years. Great weather + super visitors + plenty of activities for all ages = a successful weekend.

The next 2 days will provide plenty of activities and events to include, the “8th Annual Spring Arts and Crafts Show” at the Ocean City Convention Center. More than 100 vendors will be on hand to display, demonstrate and sell their wares. The “Delmarva Cat Connection” will also have cats and kittens available for adoption along with “Animal Rescue” who will have puppies for adoption. If you are considering getting a pet, why not look to adopt one? Orpaned puppies and kittens make great and loving companions. The Show will run from 10 am to 5 pm Saturday and Sunday.

Looking for some live entertainment, try catching the Saturday night concert at the Convention Center where for a small admission fee you can see “The Little River Band” as they perform many of their hits including, “Lady”, “Cool Change”, “Reminiscing”, and many more. The show begins at 8 pm sharp. For ticket information, you can go to the convention center box office or call 410-289-8311. Hope to see you there.

Of course, the real attraction in Ocean City from Memorial Day to Labor Day is our 8 miles of warm white sandy beaches, 2.5 mile boardwalk, Thrashers Fries, Trimpers Rides and the many arcades and “T” shirt shops along the boards. If you are on a limited budget take in the O.C. Life Saving Museum at the South end of the boardwalk, cast a line off of the rocks at the inlet or just catch up on that preliminary summer tan. So much to do and so little time. This is what I have waited all winter for.

After or before the fun, stop in at the Makai on 42nd Street and the bay (next to the convention center) and say hello to the friendly knowledgeable staff there. They are always ready to provide a personal tour of the furnished models and the amenity package. Never a bad day at the Makai with so much to do in the building.

While in Ocean City, please drive carefully and remember to cross at marked crosswalks only’

Please have a safe, happy and fun filled Memorial Day. Fly or wear the Flag proudly and thank a VET if you see one.

Until next time………

Just a perfect spring day here in Ocean City today. All cleaned up after our “nor’easter” that did create a bit of minor damage to homes and businesses  (roof shingles, vinyl siding, banners, signs and a lot of sand on the boardwalk) but again, however, ready for a great weekend.

If you want to take a trip back to the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s, Ocean City is the place to be from today through Sunday. The town is hosting the annual “Cruisin’ Ocean City” car show. It is expected that some 6000 muscle cars, classics and hot rods will be coming to the beach for this event.

The show headquarters will be at the Ocean City Convention Center but you will find the cars throughout the town and at the Inlet parking lot. There will also be a boardwalk parade. Show hours at the Convention Center will 9 a.m to 5 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. You will also be able to see most of the cars as they travel up and down Coastal Hwy late into the evening. Make sure you take a jacket and a comfortable folding chair.

Don “Big Daddy” Garlits, one of the greatest drag racers of all time will be saying Hi and signing autographs at several different locations during the weekend.

Entertainment on tap for the show will feature “The Rip Cords” on Friday at 8 p.m. and “The Vogues” on Saturday at 8 p.m. Both shows will be opened by “Still Surfin” There will be an admission charge for all events. You can call 800-551-7328 for details and show costs.

There will also be sales and auctions, so if you are in the market for a classic, this will probably be the place to be. Although most of these folks are into the classics as a hobby (quite expensive I might add), I’m told that they can’t wait to take and show off their cars on a warm spring or summer weekend. The great draw for them is the fun and comradery that they look forward to.

So, if you do plan to come to the beach this weekend but are not particularly interested in hot rod cars, everything else the town has to offer is still available. Don’t deprive yourself by staying home, you’ll be sorry you did.

Don’t forget to stop by the Makai and say hello to the staff there and take a tour of one of the finest new construction (and lowest priced) condo’s in Ocean City. In the meantime you can always take a virtual tour by going to www.makaicondos.com.

Traffic is beginning to pick up so please drive carefully and remember to cross at marked crosswalks  only.

Well, here we are again, the town is taking a short, much needed, break to recover and clean up after a very successful Springfest. We saw record crowds attending this years event. Partly because of the warm spring weather and the great entertainment (almost continuous) over the 4 days. Approximately 114,000 attended this year and all seemed to go home happy. Facilities were upscaled this year to accommodate the expected larger attendance. Springfest is one of the most popular events of the year in Ocean City because it is viewed as a celebration of the beginning of our summer season. Sunshine Artists, America’s Premier Show and Festival Magazine, rated Springfest 11th on a list of 200 top arts and crafts festivals in the United States in 2008.

The next big event starts on Thursday, May 15 when we see the start up of “Cruizin’ Ocean City” which kicks off at the O.C. Convention Center and Inlet parking lot. If you are into cars, this is a must to see. Featured will be hot rods, customs, classics, street machines and muscle cars. There will also be a boardwalk parade, live entertainment, celebrity guests, special events and auctions. Come early and stay late. I’ll get more out on this one later.

Don’t write this weekend off however, because it’s the perfect opportunity to come to the beach, relax, start working on your summer tan, cast a line into the water, stroll the 2.4 mile boardwalk or take the kids to “Trimper’s Rides” for fun and games.

For those more interested in a bit of seclusion, there’s always Assateague Island, one of the premier State and National seashore parks in the country. You will enjoy the miles of private beach, great surf fishing (no license required) and of course don’t forget the camera. The wild ponies are always ready to pose for that memorable photo of your visit.

Since we are talking about main attractions, I invite you to stop by the Makai Condominium at 4201 Coastal Hwy and the bay, say Hi to one of the staff members there and receive a personal tour of the completed facilities. This building truely provides one of the finest amenity packages, some of the best views and certainly the lowest priced new construction in Ocean City. You will find the Makai next to the O.C. Convention Center. Hope to see you there. You can also go to www.makaicondos to get a full update of status as well as virtual tours.

While in Ocean City, please drive carefully and remember to cross at marked crosswalks only.

The days are getting longer, the air and water temps are rising and Springfest is winding down. Seems like we just started talking about the upcoming celebration and just like that it’s almost behind us.

Not to worry however, there is still one last opportunity for you to enjoy this years event. Although tomorrow is the last day for the 2008 festival, lots of fun things still remain to do and great entertainment on tap.  Plenty of hand crafted articles available for purchase,  the food tent is still cranking out a variety of  mouth watering delecasies and the entertainment is still almost non stop.

Entertainment on tap for tomorrow, in no particular order, will be Randy Lee Ashcraft and the Salt Water Cowboys, Big Leg Emma, The Delmarva Big Band, Captain Quint (Jimmy Buffett Tribute Band), The Adrian Duke Projek (blues, funk, R&B, jazz), The Funsters (variety), Sir Rod (Rod Stewart tribute) and Lollipop The Clown for the children. Something for the whole family!
When the show closes, you will still have time to stroll the boardwalk or sink your toes in the soft white sands on our beach.

You will also have enough time to stop by the Makai  Condominium at 42nd Street for a quick tour of the building. The brand new building is complete and ready for occupancy.
Prices remain unchanged and the units are still being sold fully furnished. Units with great ocean and/or bay views are still available and the amenity package is 7th or 8th best in all of Ocean City. Come see for yourself, you’ll be glad you did. If for some reason you are unable to visit the Makai this trip, take a stroll through the web-site at www.makaicondos.com.
