Well. here we go again. Another year almost gone, “Black Friday” is behind us and most folks are getting ready for the Christmas season decoration displays. We have planned and shopped for a week getting ready for the big meal, cooked for 6-8 hours, spent at least 1.5 hours cleaning up and all for a sumptuous 30 minute feeding frenzy and bloated bellies. How blessed can we be? It’s amazing what one can do with Thanksgiving leftovers. Turkey noodle soup, turkey sandwiches, turkey salad, etc. This has to be the best time of the year for eating, at least for the next week or so. Least we forget, Thanksgiving is not just for filling our gullets, we all, in this great Country have much to be thankful for.

Ocean City, Maryland has always been a great destination for the Thanksgiving weekend. This weekend is no exception with plenty of folks enjoying the sunny weather and mild temps. Warm enough to stroll the beach and boardwalk, do a bit of fishing from the beach or boat (for those fortunate enough to have one), shop the outlets or take in the annual Holiday Shoppers Fair at the Ocean City Convention Center. The Shoppers Fair always draws a large turnout with wall to wall shoppers. If you are looking for that one of a kind, quality, American made (most by creative artists and crafters) gift for your special someone, the Convention Center is the place to be this weekend. Show hours are from 10 am to 5 pm Friday and Saturday and 10 am to 4 pm Sunday. As always, there is never an admission fee for this shopping extravaganza and there is plenty of free parking.

For that quiet get-a-way, try Assateague Island State and National Parks. Just a short 15 minute drive from Ocean City will put you on this beautiful barrier Island. There is no admission charge this time of year and you are sure to have many photo opportunities with the wild ponies and perhaps a few deer. You can also cast a fishing line into the Atlantic Ocean from the Islands pristine beaches.

If you are in the market for a second home or that perfect beach getaway you must make it a point to visit the Makai Condominium while in Ocean City. Conveniently located next door to the O.C. Convention Center, this 96 unit building is just weeks from completion and ready for occupancy. The sales center is open daily from 10-4 pm and the professional Long and Foster Realty sales staff will be happy to welcome and provide you with an overview of the building. The prices are the best in town for new construction and the amenity package is second to none. If you can’t find the time to visit the site, you can go to www.makaicondos.com for price and availability information as well as virtual tours. You can also call Ben Dawson at 410-603-2205. You wont be disappointed.

Time to sign off again. As always, when visiting Ocean City, please drive carefully and when walking, cross at marked crosswalks only. We want you to get here and return home safely.

Happy Thanksgiving and please support our TROOPS!

This past month has been quite busy for me. The weekend of October 12, I flew to St. Louis to attend the 2nd reunion of my Viet Nam unit. As a matter of fact, it was almost 40 years to the day that we left country to return home. Some of the attendees were not available for our first reunion 2 years ago so you can imagine how difficult it was to put names with faces after not seeing them for 40 years. Sort of reminded me of the T.V. show, cold case files. What a heart warming experience it was for all of us.

I also spent some time at Dover Air Force Base trying to get a HOP to Ramstein Germany to take some donated money to the Commanding Officer and Chief Chaplain of the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center for support of our wounded Iraq/Afghanistan hero’s. The Ocean City Lions Club has raised over $90,000. to date for this worthy cause. Much to talk about re: this project, but not enough time. I’ll be happy to give a full report to anyone interested.

The weather here at the beach is starting to show early signs of winter with night time temps down in the low 30’s (brrrrrrr). I’m not much of a cold weather person at all, but it comes with the territory when living in paradise. Come on Spring!

Although just a wee bit short on activities his weekend, The main event will feature the Ultimate Muscle Car and Truck Show, along with an appearance by some of the good ol’ boys from CMT’s original “Dukes of Hazard’ on Saturday and Sunday. The show, at the Ocean City Convention Center, will take place from 10-8 on Saturday and 10-4 on Sunday. The Duke s’ favorite mechanic “Cooter” (Ben Jones) and Deputy “Enos” (Sonny Shroyer) will be there to meet and greet you, along with the best known muscle car, the General Lee. Another special attraction will be Casey Beers’ 2006 Kenworth Super Rig featured on CMT’s “Trick My Rig”. If you are in to muscle cars of all shapes and sizes, this is the show for you.

There is plenty of good fishing, at lease for the next 2-3 weeks for the big blues and the stripers (rock fish) will be around for some time in the future. They love colder water. If fishing is not your bag, it is not so cool that walking the beach and shell collecting should not be on your “things to do list”. If you have a metal detector, be sure to bring it when you head this way. We just went through a Nor’ Easter with some beach erosion. When this happens, it’s not surprising to hear of someone finding a rare coin or artifact washed up from one of the many sunken ships just off our coast.

Assateague Island is another fun place to visit this time of year. There wont be much competition for the washed up conch shells and photo opportunities with the wild ponies (don’t forget, they are wild) and deer. Parking is not a problem and admission is free after the season.

Whether visiting Ocean City, MD. or the lower Delaware Shore you will enjoy your self. No waiting for a table in restaurants, many specials and price reductions for meals, no metered parking, and many of the boardwalk shops are open for business on weekends. There is never an admission charge for having fun, fun, fun in Ocean City, Maryland.

Let’s talk about the Makai Condominium on 42nd Street and the bay. The entire building is almost finished and ready for settlements. We expect to start transferring ownership and keys the week of Dec. 4 and immediate occupancy after that. The amenity (activity) floor will be one of the finest in Ocean City with the billiards (gentleman’s ) room and 8 ft pool tables, our state of the art fitness center with sauna, year around indoor, bay front tropical pool, large activity room with game tables, children’s arcade, T.V. lounge, reading lounge and so much more. All of this and we haven’t even described the units that are fully furnished, including granite counter tops, ceramic tile floors, stainless steel appliances and most having ocean and/or bay views. One more thing, the highest priced unit at the Makai is lower than most of the lowest priced new construction in Ocean City today. You owe it to yourself to at least check out these condo’s. The time and prices are perfect for making that New Years resolution a reality. Stop by the Sales Trailer and have one of the professional sales persons tell you more.

If you can’t make it this weekend, come and enjoy thanksgiving dinner with us.

As always, when you are in Ocean City, drive carefully, watch out for pedestrians, and if walking, cross at marked cross walks only.
