July 7, 2007, the
It’s hard to believe that the 4th of July has come and gone. Is the year flying by or what? Speaking of the 4th, the weather did not cooperate at all which caused the Town Leaders to postpone the fireworks display for a day. For a while on Thursday, it didn’t appear that we would get the display in. It was quite windy and rain threatened throughout the day . The rain held off until about 30 minutes before the schedulled event when the skies started to open. Just when the first burst of sky rockets appeared, the rain stopped and the skies cleared. The display was spectacular as expected at both Northside Park and on the beach downtown. Very much worth the 24 hour wait
The mid 70 temps, low humidity and gentle cooling breezes are gone. Temps are now in the 90’s, high humidity and expected hot weather into next week. Summer is here for sure. Great beach weather with tanning index at 9 to 10. Make sure you have plenty of GOOD suntan lotion when out in the sun.
The restaurant business has been booming here in Ocean City with 45+ minutes wait for dinner at most dining facilities unless you have reservations. Some restaurants require reservations. Those with seafood buffet are usually the most popular.
Fishing in the bay for flounder is showing some pretty good catches, especially off the head boats. Surf catches are fair with mostly smaller blues being bagged and for a good day of tuna fishing take a charter out 45 to 70 miles for a great day and a good catch.
So much to do here on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and Delaware and so little time left to do it this summer. Wide sandy beaches, Assateague Seashore State/National Park, historic Berlin, the outlets at Rehobeth Beach and the Ocean City 2.5 mile boardwalk are just a few of the things available to make your vacation enjoyable and memorable. While in Ocean City you can take the children to Trimpers Rides on the boardwalk. An East Coast landmark the Trimper Family has the oldest active merry go round in the country (all of the ride animals are hand made).
The Makai Condominium at 42nd. Street and the bay is coming together quite nicely and occupancy is expected in August. For those of you that are not familiar with the Makai, it is a new 96 unit condominium project next to the Ocean City Convention Center with an amenity package that will entertain the whole family on the most dreary vacation day. The complex boasts an indoor year around bayfront tropical pool, state of the art fitness center with sauna, gentlemens (billiards) room, childrens arcade, T.V. lounge, activity room with gaming tables and so much more. 30 of the 96 condos have sold with plenty of great bay/ocean view units still available. The Makai is the lowest priced new construction in Ocean City with the best amenity package and some of the best views. You can visit the Makai sales trailer or go to www.makaicondos.com for a complete update.
- If you are already in the area or planning to come to the ocean please be safe and remember to cross at designated crosswalks only. Enjoy Your stay.
